This week, myself, my lady friend, and Dat Stunch went out tromping around a local university to play with his new Nikon N1/J1 that he picked up and to flog the ol' D40 and see what gems I could further tease out with limited hardware and manual focus.
The night started out pretty simple, a well traveled route that normally kicks off our night and sets the tone for the evening. You get the picture (or maybe you don't). Darkness abounds save for the few flood lights and the ever present water feature. Lots of vibrant oranges and greens due to the lighting scheme and the flora make for some terribly interesting color combinations. However on this evening, we decided to take a little detour...

We normally walk around the well let sections of campus that allow for better photography without a flash and allow more freedom with focus and lens selection, this was not the case. Our detour took us to the park land on campus where the lights are practically non existent and there's an older cemetery and old foundation of a time gone by. It was dark enough that even with a generally steady hand I was having a hard time getting a good image and we decided to play with light and shadow and light painting (which can be found over on Stunch's site). After a fair bit of playing around in the dark, we decided to head back and call it a night as both Stunch and myself had to work the next day, we were also able to see a few things we don't normally see and try out a few shots we'd talked about in the past. All in all it was a good time and we got to expand our horizons a little bit further. |
